Carl Temple Ferris was born on 5 Dec 1888 in Whatcom Co., Washington to Isaac Ferris and Phebe Webber.
in 1900 at the age of 11, Carl was living in San Diego Co. , Southern California with his parents and sister. By1910, Carl was living with his parents, brother, Reed, and maternal grandparents, still in San Diego County. Carl was a machinist His sister Pearl had married farmer Joel Ketch and they were living in Benton County, Oregon.
In his WWI Draft Registration, he is described as single, unemployed, slender with dark blue eyes and dark brown hair, and partially deaf. The family moved to Yamhill County, Oregon, and on 31 December 1917, Carl was admitted to the Oregon State Hospital (OSH), a residential facility in Salem, Oregon for the treatment of people with mental illness.
Carl died of pneumonia at the institution on 8 April 1926. He was 37 years old and had been a patient at the asylum for over 8 years. Carl’s cremated remains were never taken after his death and are still available at the Oregon State Hospital to be claimed by anyone who is related.
