Enlisted: 16 Aug 1861
Mustered out: 24 Jul 1865

Isaac Fann, son of Hiram Fann (1800-1874) of Tennessee and Mary "Polly" (Carter) Hays Fann of South Carolina, widow of Reuben Hays (1785-1814), was born about Jan 1827 in Tennessee.[1][2] His parents had married 20 Jan 1823 in Greene, Tennessee.[3]

He married Lucretia Chapman on 26 Jan. 1845 in Hamilton County, Illinois.[4]

He was a laborer when he and Lucretia appeared on the census of 11 Oct. 1850 at District 10, Hamilton, Illinois. They were listed next to his parents.[5] He was a farmer when he and Lucretia appeared on the census of 20 July 1860 at Township 5 Range 5 E, Hamilton, Illinois.[6]

Among their children were:

  1. Martha Fann, born 1847, Illinois
  2. Hosea Fann, born 1850, Illinois
  3. Margaret Fann, born 1853, Illinois
  4. Moses Fann, born 1855, Illinois
  5. Eli Elias Fann, born 1860, Illinois
  6. Isaac Fann Jr, born 1862, Illinois

Secondly, he married Eliza (Carey) Cole (1832-1892) of Kentucky, widow of Jasper M Cole (1833-1857) daughter of James Henry Carey and Mary A. (Ligon) Carey,[2]

He was a farmer when he and Eliza appeared on the census of 23 July 1870 at Township 6 Range 6, Hamilton, Illinois.[7] He and Eliza appeared on the census of 25 June 1880 at Mcleansboro, Hamilton County, Illinois.[8] He was a widowed farmer when he appeared on the census of 7 June 1900 at Northern, Franklin County, Illinois.[1]

Isaac died on 2 Dec. 1903 probably in Franklin County, Illinois (last reported location in the 1900 census was Macedonia Village, Northern Township, Franklin County),[1] and was buried at Macedonia Cemetery, also in Franklin County, Macedonia, Franklin County, Illinois. His memorial has a photo of his headstone and a link to that of Eliza,[2] and his stone appears to name 40th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry; Union Army, American Civil War, and is confirmed by a National Park Service Soldier Details entry.[9]
