Samuel Fann was born in North Carolina.

Samuel Ray Fann was born in 1938, Goldsboro, Wayne, North Carolina, the son of Samuel Kelly Fann.[1]

After graduating from Goldsboro High School in 1956, Samuel Ray Fann trained at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, graduating Jul 1957, as a radio intercept operations and Morse intercept operations specialist. He was deployed with the 6970th Support Squadron, including a tour of duty in Crete, Greece. His last tour was at Fort George G Meade, Maryland. He earned a Good Conduct Medal for service from 23 Apr 1957 - 22 Apr 1960 as a radio intercept analyst specialist, Airman Second Class.

Mr Fann then served in the 530th Air National Guard Band as a percussionist on drums. On 21 Jan 1995, he received a commendation medal for Meritorious Service from 1 Oct 1992-31 Dec 1994 as a Technical Sergeant. He retired as a Master Sargent at the age of 60.

Samuel retired from AT&T in 2002 after more than 40 years of combined Southern Bell, BellSouth and AT&T service in switching and trunking network management, design and maintenance.

The earliest record of his professional music career dates to The Uniques, managed by Bob Braswell ca. 1963-4, who sometimes performed at “The Melody Box” in Goldsboro, North Carolina; and Sam also performed with the following, in Georgia, though not a comprehensive list, and in no particular order: Time & Change, Alpharetta City Band, New Horizons Band and the Air National Guard Band.

Samuel and living (Clay) were married 19 Nov 1971. They enjoyed 48 years together.

Samuel was preceded by his father, Samuel Kelly Fann and his mother, Mary Ester Fann; and, by his daughter Brenda Raye Fann by his first wife, living (Lockey).

Mr Fann is survived by living (Clay), his second wife; children, the eldest three by living (Lockey) to whom he was married 1956-1969: living daughter and her husband, living Fox; living son and his partner living Kidaloski; and, his youngest daughter by living (Clay): and her husband living Elrod; Sam is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and, by brothers: living Fann, and living Fann and his wife living (Butler).
