Biography

North Carolina Flag
Emily (Fann) Gautier was born in North Carolina.

Emily Fann was born about 1827 in Sampson, North Carolina, the daughter of John Fann and Bythenia Kelley.[1]

Her husband was Peter Gautier (circa 1830-1869), with whom she was living by 1860, but no marriage record has been found.[2]

Among their children were:

  1. Margaret Fann[1][2][3][4] (although no records show that Peter Gautier was Margaret's father, and his birth date is prohibitive for him to have been her biological father)
  2. William A Gautier[2][3][4] who married Margaret C Brock in 1888[5]
  3. John C Gautier[3]
  4. Sarah E Laura Gautier (born circa 1867)[3][4]

Before 1870, she was widowed,[3] and by 1900 was living with her son, William and his wife Margaret.[6] It is in this last census that her birth date is shown as Jan 1825 and that she was the mother of four children.

Research Notes

This person may be her father-in-law: Thomas Nicholas Boudet Gautier (abt.1764-1848).
