He wed Ethel Christine Sever (1898–1960) on 28 June 1916 at the Rectory of Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church, New Jersey, USA. [1] They took in and brought up a girl, who in the 1920 census was listed as:

  1. Erma Smith, boarder, two years of age; later she used the surname Espenschied.

In 1917/1918 Benjamin registered with the U.S. Military Draft. [2]

In 1920 Benjamin Espenschied, wife Ethel, mother Anna, and boarder Erma Smith are recorded living in Riverside, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA. [3]

Benjamin died on 17 May 1960 in Mount Holly, Burlington County, New Jersey, United States. He was buried at Monument Cemetery in Beverly, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA. [4]
