Thanks for adding the baptism record (source) to the bio of Antonie Philippus Erasmus (1805-1876), though in future please do not remove the < references / > code as you did here.

Hi Cas, this is another friendly but urgent request not to create duplicate ‘’unsourced’’ profiles, and especially not to disconnect and reconnect profiles based on secondary sources, referring to the removal of the spouse Kervel-9 of Catharina “Trijnte” van Wijk formerly Hermansz, Ermans – already a duplicate of Kervel-2. Most of the pre-1700 profiles have been created; and we are still busy to bring all of those profiles organised. This is just one example – I see that you have been busy with pre-1800 profiles. Please be careful – if there is { {Unsourced} } above any new profile created by you, you are breaking the Honor Code. If you create new duplicates based on secondary sources only, you are also not honoring the spirit of the Code. Please make contact with the other team members before you make major changes to pre-1800 project profiles.

Hi Cas, this is a friendly request not to disconnect profiles based on secondary sources. Many secondary sources are only ahn indication, and not alway correct. The spouse that you had disconnected from http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Venter-590 I replaced. It should be merged with the other spouse, not disconnected.

Please see this proces: At no stage do we merely interpret facts or only collect information that support our view of what might have been and then forcefully edit data to fit that (if we need to make comments we do it with footnotes, adding the sources appropriately, accompanied by our WikiTree names, the dates we have seen the sources and the dates that we have done the editing).

We also do not 'Disrespect the contributions of others by vandalizing what they have already contributed.

Hi!

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Shirley Dalton, WikiTree Mentor

Thanks Philip, I am learning fast.

Cas, thanks for adding infomation. A friendly request to please be very careful with editing the data of existing profiles, especially those pre-1800. Also, please source your own profiles first before starting editing already sourced profiles. And always give your reasons for editing before saving your changes. Do not merely disconnect and / or re-connect spouses or parents - duplicates should be merged, not disconnected!

Hello Casper,

Welcome to WikiTree! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here.
