Biography

Seth Emerson was born at Bridgton, Maine, 18 Apr 1796, the son of William Emerson and Elizabeth Myrick or Merrick; ^{[1] [2]} d at Calais, Sep 1881, and buried in the Calais Cemetery; ^[3] m (int. at Calais, 22 Sep 1827) Mary Weston Knight. ^[4] Capt. Seth Emerson came to Calais from Bridgton (or Addison, according to a handwritten note on p. 185), ME, in 1824; built the lower bridge in 1827; framed the first Congregational church; built several saw-mills, and a grist-mill which he ran for several years. ^[5]
