Taheyya Kariokka (also Tahiya Carioca) was an Egyptian belly dancer and film actress.^[1]

Badaweya Mohamed Kareem Ali Elnedany was born about 22 Feb 1915 in Ismailia, Egypt. Her exact birth date is not certain, some sources suggest 1920.^[1]

Her father was a boat merchant, who had married six times. He may have been about 60 years old when Badaweya was born, while her mother was in her twenties. Her father died when she was very young, and she was sent to live with her older half-brother Ahmed Ali Elnedany. He treated her very poorly, including locking her up and on one occasion shaving her hair.^[1]

She escaped to Cairo, and found work as a chorus girl dancer at a prominent night club, starting with the stage name Tahiya Mohamed. She gained popularity as a solo dancer and eventually learned a popular Samba dance from Brazil called the Carioca. After that, she became known as Tahiya Carioca. She also began starring in movies.^[1]

Taheyya married 14 times. Her marriages included:

• playwright Fayez Halawa^[1]
• film studio director Ahmad Salim (likely divorced around 1941/42)^[2]
• a US army officer who took her to the US for a while (likely married around 1946 and divorced around 1947)^[1][3]
• [8th marriage] actor Rushdy Abaza (likely married 1948, divorced 1951)^[1][4]
• Iron Guard commander Mostafa Kamal Sidqy (married 1952)^[3][4]

She was not able to conceive any children of her own, and adopted a daughter, Atiyat Allah.^[1]

She later moved to London, England. She died of a heart attack on 20 Sept 1999, likely in Cairo, Egypt.^[1][5]
