Biography

Private First Class Herbert Eichner served in the United States Army in World War II

Herbert Eichner was awarded the Purple Heart.

Herbert J Eichner was born on 14 Dec 1925 in Sharpsburg, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States,[1]

He enlisted as a Private in Company "G" of the 309th Infantry, 78th Division on 20 March 1944, in Cumberland, Pennsylvania, where he served in the European Theatre.[2]. He was shot in the knee, and hospitalized in March 1945.[3] The wound was such that he was discharged 12 September 1945 from Camp Pickett, Virginia.[4]

Herbert (21) married Florence F Pilarski, daughter of Anthony J Pilarski and Irene Rolewicz, on 23 Aug 1947 in Allegheny[5][6][7].

On 6 April 1950 he was applied for compensation for injuries sustained in battle.[4]

Herbert died on 30 May 2011 in West Sunbury, Butler, Pennsylvania aged 85.[1][8] He was interred in the Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Tarentum, Pennsylvania.[9]
