Biography

Martha E. Edgerton, also known as Mattie, was born in the Stony Creek (Luzerne) area of Warren County, New York on December 7, 1861. She was the daughter of Daniel Edgerton and Mary Lewis.

Mattie married first to Edwin McHugh until his death in 1906.

On September 4, 1918, Mattie married for a second time to Sylvester W. Grant in Albany, New York. Despite their marriage, Martha is recorded using her first husband's surname and listed as widowed Head of Household while her husband Sylvester is listed as a boarder in the 1920 their U. S. Census in Schenectady, New York.

By the time of the 1925 New York Census, Mattie is using the surname Grant living with her husband Sylvester in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Mattie passed away in Saratoga Springs, New York on March 15, 1939. She is buried in Vale Cemetery in Schenectady, New York.
