Born Tillie Edelstein on October 5, 1898 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, she is the daughter of Jacob Edelstein and Dinah Goldstein. Her father was 23 years old at the time, born in Russia. Her mother was 19 years old and born in England.[1]

Her childhood was divided between New York and Fleischmanns, a town in the Catskills, where her father ran a resort hotel. Her maternal grandmother, Czerna Goldstein made a huge impression on Berg for her warmth and affection as well as her devotion to family and community.[2]

Gertrude married Lewis Berg in 1918 - 3 children[3] + 2 adopted children

Gertrude Berg died at the age of 66 on September 14, 1966 in Manhattan, New York City, New York and was buried in Clovesville Cemetery in Delaware county, New York.[4] [5]
