Research Notes

David Ebersold's occupation while he lived on Bainbridge Island is listed as a farmer. While he may have done some farming, it probably would not have given him a big enough income to sustain his large and growing family. Located at Port Blakely at that time were to large timber companies. They had large mills and produced the masts for ships. More than likely, he also picked up some work in these mills. About the time David picks up and moves across the nation to Florida, both of the mills at Port Blakely caught fire and burned to the ground. Rather than travel across country, the family may have caught a ship sailing for the east coast. However they may also have traveled by train to Florida.

By 1900, he has established a photography studio on the beach outside of Jacksonville, Florida. He is found in the 1901 City Directory for Jacksonville. He dies later that year.

After his death, his widow, Thena, leaves some of the older children in Florida and takes some of the younger children back to Iowa to stay for awhile with family. While in Iowa, she meets a widower, Alexander Forney. Alexander is the brother of Kate Ebersold Forney's husband, John. The two marry after a short courtship. From Iowa they move to Wyoming for a few years. Eventually Thena and Alexander to back to Jacksonville, Florida. All of the many descendants of the Florida Ebersolds are descended from David and Thena's 12 children.
