James was born in 1738 to Rachel Kimball and James Eaton. He married Abigail Emerson in 1758. 9 children born to this couple (see below). James died at Goffstown in 1809 and was buried at Westlawn Cemetery.
James Eaton, Jr. served as a Private in Captain Clark's company, Colonel Stickney's regiment, General Stark's brigade, New Hampshire, during the Revolutionary War. He also was a member of the Committee of Inspection for New Hampshire.
