Biography

Matilda was born in Shearsby, Leicestershire, England on 7 May 1824 and was baptised there on 28 July 1828. She was the daughter of George Dyson and Jane Burdett ^[1][2].

In the 1841 census Matilda (age '15') was in Severt Alley, Shearsby ^[3].

Matilda (age 18), married Joseph Welsh (age 21) on 16 March 1842 in Shearsby ^[4]. Their children were:

• Thomas, 1843-43, Shearsby ^[5][6]
• George, 1848, Leicester ^[7]
• Ann, 1853, Leicestershire ^[8]
• Joseph, 1856, Leicestershire ^[9]

In the 1851 census Maltilda (age 27), frame work knitter, was the wife of Joseph Welch in Leire, Leicestershire ^[10].

In the 1861 census Matilda (age 36), framework knitter, was the widowed head of household in Leire, Leicestershire ^[11]. She was with her children George (13), Ann (8) and Joseph (5) and mother, Jane Dyson.

Matilda immigrated with the Homer Duncan Company on 24 September 1862 to Deseret, Utah, United States ^[12].

In the 1880 census, Matilda (age 56), Keeping House, was the wife of John Douglas in West Weber, Weber, Utah Territory ^[13].

Matilda (age 68) married John Douglass (age 73) on 28 December 1888 in Weber, Utah ^[14].

Matilda was in an obituary in the Ogden Standard Examiner on 25 July 1894. She died on 21 July 1894 in West Weber, Utah ^[15]
