The Burkes source citation & link only take you to the front of Volume 1 & so is incomplete imo.

The actual source is to be found in Chapter XV [63] page 36 1525 "Inquest post mortem John Pennington Esq"

Father Thomas would need to be about 80-100 years old when he had son John Edward - the dates juts don't fit together properly

I looks to me like there's a profile missed. This Thomas has been given the birth year of his father in error - hence your comment about his age.

Thomas Dykes did not have any children with Margaret Martindale; so if he is the father of John Edward Dyke(s) then the mother is Isabel Pennington or an unknown 3rd wife for Thomas Dykes! Personally, I'm not convinced that John Edward Dyke(s) is a son of Thomas Dykes.

I put in a merge request.

The merge with :

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dykes-594 hasn't been completed and I don't have the permissions to change it. Not two Thomas Dykes: the same guy.

The Merger with three other Thomas Dykes hasn't gone well. I'll try to repair the damage.

Christiana Salkeld did not have two children from her marriage to William del Dykes called Thomas and, if she did, they would not have both attained adulthood. The Thomas married to Margaret (while correct) did not produce children.

My knowledge is that Thomas Dykes did marry a Margaret (it could be Margaret Pennington or Margaret Martindale) but they had no children.

Thomas Dykes then married Christiana Salkeld. I assume that the 1st wife Margaret died (in childbirth perhaps) before Thomas remarried.

The Thomas married to Margaret Martindale is wrong. While it was not unusual to have children with the same name, the 1st born would have died before the 2nd born - otherwise life would have been very confusing.

Dykes-594 and Dykes-7 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents; please merge or remove the one that doesn't belong to those parents.
why is there an unmerged match instead of a merge proposal?

The mother of (I1) Leonard Dykes was Isabel, daughter of john Pennington of Muncaster and not Margaret (daughter of William Martindale). Please refer to https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:A_Genealogical_and_Heraldic_History_of_the_Commoners_of_Great_Britain

According tho Burke's Peerage (written in 1821) Thomas Dykes married Isabel, heiress of John Pennington of Muncaster to produce the heir Leonard Dykes. As Thomas had two wives (Isabel and Margaret), do we know the dates of the weddings?
