Elizabeth (Duryee) Ballard was a New Yorker.

Elizabeth Sloan Duryee was born on September 11, 1890, in the hamlet of Garrison (part of Philipstown), Putnam County, New York, to Joseph Duryee and Margaret Sloan [1][2].

In 1905, Elizabeth (15 - at school) lived in Manhattan, New York, with her father Jospeph (52 - practiced as a clergyman), her mother Margaret S. (50 - at home), her sister Margaret (21 - at home), her sister Marie L. (19 - at home), her brother Samuel S. (11 - at school), her brother Edward H. (7 - at school), their U.S. servant Milliard Townsend (19 - worked as a coachman), their Scottish servant Margaret Furguson (50 - worked as a cook), U.S. servant Louise Miller (40 - worked as a nurse) and Irish servant Margaret Hughes (30 - worked as a housekeeper)[3].

On September 1, 1909, Elizabeth (18) sailed on the S.S. Adriatic, from Southampton and arrived at the port of New York, with her father Joseph (57), her brother Samuel S. (16), her sister Margaret E. (24) and her sister Maria L. (21)[4].

In 1910, Elizabeth S. (19) lived at 139 East 36th Street, in Manhattan, New York City, with her father Joseph (57 - widowed and practiced as a clergyman in the church), her sister Margaret Elmendorf Duryee (25 - worked as a teacher), her sister Marie La Grange Duryee (22 - worked as a teacher), her brother Samule Sloan Duryee (16), Irish servant Marsha Sterba (22), Irish servant Margaret Leyburn (25), Irish servant Nellie Shea (24), English servant Florence Barry (52) and Irish servant Michael McClene (21)[5].

On September 20, 1910, Elisabeth (20) left the United States for Paris, France[6].

On December 13, 1910, Elisabeth (20 - name as spelled in the passport application; height 5' 4", high forehead, blue eyes, medium mouth, round chin, blonde hair, fair complexion and round face), filed for an emergency passport while in Paris, France, going to Russia[7].

On August 27, 1913, Elizabeth (22) married Ernest Schwefel Ballard (27 - worked as a lawyer), in Garrison, New York[8][9].

On October 4, 1914, Elizabeth and Ernest gave birth to their daughter Elizabeth Sloan Ballard, in New York City, New York[10].

On June 23, 1916, Elizabeth and Ernest gave birth to their daughter Susan Rankin Ballard, in Winnetka, Cook County, Illinois[11].

On November 13, 1917, Elizabeth (27) and Ernest (32) gave birth to their son Ellis Ames Ballard, in Winnetka, Cook County, Illinois[12].

In 1920, Elizabeth (29) lived at 1229 Hampsondale Avenue, in New Trier, Cook County, Illinois, with her husband Ernest (35 - worked as a lawyer), their daughter Elizabeth (5), their daughter Susan (3), their son Ellis Ames (2), their Irish servant Mary McEily (21) and Irish servant Bessie McEily (18)[13][14].

On February 19, 1920, Elizabeth and Ernest gave birth to their son Joseph Duryee Ballard, in Winnetka, Cook County, Illinois[15].

On November 29, 1923, Elizabeth (33) and Ernest (38) gave birth to their daughter Mary Duryee Ballard, in Winnetka, Cook County, Illinois[16].

On July 27, 1925, Elizabeth and Ernest gave birth to their son Ernest Schwefel Ballard, in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine[17][18].

On July 6, 1931, Elizabeth and Ernest gave birth to their son Samuel Sloan Ballard, in Maine[19][20][21]

In 1940, Elizabeth (49) lived at 6 Kent Street, in New Trier, with her husband Ernest (55 - practiced as a lawyer), their son Ellis-Ames (22 - worked as a gardener), their son Joseph D. (20), their daughter Mary (16), their son Ernest (14), their son Samuel S. (8), their Irish nurse Bessie McEvilly (40), Wisconsin cook Edith Nystrom (35) and German servant Martha Back (38 and widowed)[22].

On September 8, 1952, Elisabeth (62 - living at 120 East 75th Street, in New York City) travelled on the Vulcania, from Naples and arrived at the port of Halifax on September 18, 1952, with her son Samuel Sloan Ballard (21)[23].

Elizabeth Sloan Duryee Ballard (91) passed away on October 22, 1981, in Cook County, Illinois and is buried in Christ Church Churchyard, in Winnetka, Cook County, Illnois[24][25].
