Thomas Harbert Durham was born on 19 February 1881 in Larkinsville, Jackson, Alabama, United States to to Jesse Richard Durham (1836-1918) and Madora Catherine Young (1846-1923), called Dora.

He married Pearl Laurine Guyer (1889-1960) on 2 October 1909 in Madison County, Alabama.
