Biography

Harvey George Dunn was born on 17 Jun 1905 in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Harvey Dunn and Marie Emma Mercier. ^[1]

The 1930 Census^[2] shows him at age 24 in the home of his parents in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He is single. No occupation is given.

He married Leslie Green 26 Feb 1931 in Santa Rosa County, Florida. ^{[3] [4]} Their child:

1. Mary Jeanne (Dunn) Hedberg (1936-2016) ^[5]

He served in the United States Navy during both World War II and the Korean War, reaching the rank of Commander.

The 1940 Census^[6] shows him at age 34 in the home of his parents in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Inexplicably, he is marked as single.

The 1950 Census^[7] shows him at age 44 with his wife and daughter in Norfolk, Norfolk County, Virginia. He is in the Armed Forces.

He died in 1970 in Florida,^{[8] [9]} and is buried at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida.^[10] Excerpted from his obituary: ^[11]

”Cmdr. Harvey George Dunn Jr., Ret., USN, of 13 High Point Dr., Gulf Breeze, died Saturday afternoon in a local hospital. He was a native of Lowell, Mass., but had resided in the Pensacola area the past 18 years. He was a member of the Catholic Church and a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch No. 22. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Leslie G. Dunn of Gulf Breeze; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Jean Hedberg of Fairfax, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Jean Masse of Tyngsbora, Mass., Mrs. Connie Bureau, Mrs. Rita De-Simo, Mrs. Alice O'Neil and Mrs. Lou Piegon, all of Lowell, Mass.; four brothers Donald, Jewell, Paul and Raymond Dunn, all of Lowell, Mass.; his mother, Mrs. Emma Dunn of Lowell, Mass.; and three grandchildren.” ^[11]
