William was born in 1840. He was the son of Jean Baptiste Dubreuil and Madeleine Strack. He passed away in 1897. [1]

The following story comes from the Clinton County, NY, 1861-1865 Civil War Record 1861-1865 Facebook page:

TEN MONTHS WITH THE 91st INFANTRY - In the fall of 1864, three brothers by the name of Dubray enlisted in the 91st Infantry for town bounties of $300. William Dubray. They were all sons of Jean-Baptiste Dubray and Melinda Strack who had come to farm in the Redford/Black Brook area.

In the summer of 1864, the regiment’s three-year term was up, but a sufficient number of the regiment reenlisted to secure its continuance in the field as a veteran regiment and a number of men like William and his brothers enlisted in the autumn of 1864. They were each given town bounties of $300.

The men were ordered to Baltimore to join the regiment, where they were assigned to the 2nd Separate Brigade, VIII Corps. In March 1865, the regiment, with the exception of one company which remained at Baltimore, was ordered to Petersburg, where it participated in the closing operations of the siege with the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, V Corps, and lost 230 in the Appomattox Campaign. William was mustered out on June 10, 1865 and returned to the Saranac area.

He came home to his wife, Catherine Houle, and several children and lived in the Saranac area for the rest of his life. After the war, they had six more children – the last one born in 1879. William was the first of the three brothers to die. He died in 1897 at 56 years old and was buried in the Assumption Cemetery in Redford. Catherine lived until 1920 and their daughter, Lucinda, died in Redford in 1965.
