Biography

Aime Etienne Fred "Amati" Dubreuil was born about 1820 in France.

He was a well know operatic artist, who studied singing as a young artist in Italy, and sang at La Scala in Milan.


In September 1847, he married Caroline Ferrero in New York. [1]

At times, he performed with Madame Fleury Jolli.[2]


He lost his voice in 1853, and became a stage manager for several years, based in New York City among other places. [3]. In 1864, he was a member of Max Maretzek's Italian Opera Company. Known performances:

  • Massetto, in Don Giovanni, November 1864
  • Beppo, in Fra Diavolo, in New York City, December 1864

In the 1865 season , Amati was the stage manager.


His age was a secret and not disclosed to many family members for unknown reasons.

He passed away in 1885,[4] and is buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, New York, NY. [5]
