Mary Jane DuBree was the oldest of two surviving daughters of Charles DuBree and Mary Kerr. They were French Huguenots. Mary Jane was a seamstress/dressmaker. She married Martin Van Buren Yerkes January 31, 1872 in Abington, Montgomery Co., PA and had five sons. They were Charles Hiram Yerkes who died as a baby, William Thompkins Yerkes who was a real estate agent and church organist, Carroll Harvey Yerkes who was a minister and missionary to China, Archibald Murphy Yerkes who was a harness maker like his father and died at age 22, and Dawson Martin Yerkes. She died of pneumonia when Dawson, her youngest son, was about 14. Martin remarried about a year later. Three of her sons (Charles, Will and Archie) are buried with her, and the Dawson and his wife are beside her.
