Biography

Birth

Geziena was born on May 15, 1877 in Scheemda, Groningen, Netherlands. She was the daughter of Antko Drenth and Reina Dijk.^[1]

1st Immigration

Antko and his family left the Netherlands for Buenos Aries, Argentina in 1889. They moved around Argentina and Brazil. They found living conditions terribly difficult. Antko and 2 children died in South America. Geziena, her mother, and brother returned to the Netherlands in 1893.^[2]

Marriage

Geziena married Jan Hensens, born in Westerlee gem. Scheemda, 22 years old, arbeider, on April 25, 1901 in Scheemda.^[3] They had 4 children in The Netherlands:

• Berend Hensens, born on June 30, 1901 in Westerlee gem. Scheemda
• Antko Kristiaan Hensens, born on October 10, 1902 in Westerlee gem. Scheemda
• Reina Hensens, born on April 29, 1904 in Westerlee gem. Scheemda
• Aaltje Hensens, born on August 21, 1905 in Westerlee gem. Scheemda

2nd Immigration

Jan, Geziena, and their 4 children immigrated to the USA in 1906. They settled in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The 1930 census lists the family in Kalamazoo, Michigan with 7 children at home, plus her mother and brother Fred.^[4]

Death

She passed away on Augugt 11, 1955 in Kalamazoo^[6] and was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo.^[7]
