Biography

Major General in the Confederate Army in the Civil War and Speaker in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

Daniel Smith Donelson was born 23 Jun 1801 in Sumner County, Tennessee

Donelson died 17 Apr 1863 in Montvale Springs, Blount County, Tennessee, just south of Knoxville, while in position as senior officer of the Tennessee War Department. He was buried in Hendersonville Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Hendersonville, Sumner County, Tennessee.[1]

In his will, signed February 24, 1863, Daniel S Donelson made his wife, Margaret, his sole heir and executor.[2]

Fort Donelson was named after him.
