Biography

Catherine was born about 1758 in the Virginia Colony (possibly Halifax County, which was designated in 1759) to Robert Donnelson and Hannah Barnett. She may have had at least 8 siblings: Thomas, Mary, Hannah, Elizabeth, Robert, Sarah, Rachel and Margaret.

She married about 1779 in North Carolina, possibly in Halifax County, to Edmund Cody, the son of James Cody III and Sarah Womack. She was about 21 years old. They may have had at least 12 children together (more research is needed for the children):

Her husband received a land grant in Georgia for services on the frontier under Col. Martin and Col. Rutherford. Possibly the Virginia Continental Line.

Jan 1790 Caswell County, North Carolina - she was named Catherine Archdeacon in the will of her mother, Hannah Donaldson. Also named were siblings: Sarah Wilkerson. Robert, Mary, Rachel Dickson, Elizabeth Noell, Hannah Breese [1]

They moved to Wilkes County (now known as Warren County) in 1792. [2]

1794 Georgia Tax List Index - Neals District, Warren County, Georgia: record for Edmond Cody

30 Dec 1806 - Warren County, Georgia - Indenture for Land Deed purchase by Thomas Pate from Edmund Cody in the amount of $465. [3]

2 Apr 1807 - Warren County, Georgia - Indenture for a Land Deed purchased by Edmund Cody from William Smith in the amount of $1,400 [4]

Catherine died in 1814 in Warren County, Georgia at about the age of 56.

Her husband's will is signed and dated on 15 Aug 1831 and proved on 9 Mar 1832. [6] He names his daughter, Sarah Hardaway; grandson, Robert Cody; children of his son (dec'd), James Cody (to-wit: Edmund, Benjamin, Robert, Celia, Elias, Christopher, Katherine, Eliza, Lucretia and James); grandson, Albert Cody; son, Barnett Cody; Barnett Cody and G.W. Hardaway, named as Executors. Witnessed by Peter Cody, James Higginbotham, Drury A. McCullers. Proved by Drury A. McCullers.

Edmund's family were Episcopalians. Some of the most prominent families of our Southland are lineal decendants of his parents. [7][8]
