John Doby Sr. was born on 9 Jan 1742 in Albemarle Parish, Virginia Colony to John Doby and Hannah unknown. He was christened on 27 Feb 1742, also in Albemarle Parish.[1]
He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Frances Massey around 1770 (just a guess), and probably in Brunswick County, Virginia Colony. They had three known children: William Dobey, Joseph Doby, and John Doby Jr.
He passed away on 8 Sep 1781 in Eutaw Springs, South Carolina. John's will lists his mother Hannah, his wife Elizabeth, sons William, John, and Joseph. He also lists negroes Minqo and Moll.[2]
