Biography

Agrippina Konstantinovna Djaparidze was born in the Caucasus at Radshka, Georgia, on 25 October (O.S. 6 November) 1855. She was also reported to have been born on 6 April 1855.

Her first name is sometimes spelled Agrafena or Agrafina. In the Georgian language, her name is spelled: აგრაფინა ჯაფარიძე, გრაფინია ფონ ზარნეკაუ

In Russian her name is spelled: Агриппина Константиновна Джапаридзе, графиня Зарнекау (фон Царнекау)

When she married to a Russian Duke in 1882, Agrippina was given the title "Countess von Zarnekau." She is remembered in Russian history books as the mother of the six Counts and Countesses von Zarnekau.

In Georgia, however, she is seen as a member of Georgian royalty.

Agrippina's father, Konstantini Djaparidze, was a descendant of Georgia's royal family tree, the Bagration Dynasty, from which the Djaparidze family springs. The Djaparidze family were once princes of Racha and Imeretia (a northern district of Georgia).

Konstantini Djaparidze died in the year 1860, when Agrippina was only five years old. HIs wife Melano ("Melanie") raised the family, but struggled financially.

As soon as Agrippina could marry and leave home, she did. Her mother arranged a brilliant match: Agrippina married Prince Tarieli Dadiani of Mingrelia. Georgian Wikipedia gives the date of their marriage as 1876.

Agrippina was Tarieli's second wife. His first wife, Sofia Shervashidze, died in childbirth. In fact, Agrippina inherited four step children: two daughters and two sons.

Although her own birthdate makes it seem impossible, some Georgian family trees indicate that she herself gave birth to three children in the 1860s: Prince Mikeli Tarieli Dadiani (b. 1860), Prince Levanti Tarieli Dadiani (b. 1864), and Princess NIno Dadiani (b. 1868). These were more likely the children of Sofia.

Agrippina divorced Prince Tariel Dadiani in early 1882, and on 20 October 1882 she married at Kutaisi, Georgia, to Konstantin Friedrich Peter von Holstein-Gottorp, Duke of Oldenburg, son of Constantine Friedrich Peter von Holstein-Gottorp, Duke of Oldenburg and Therese Prinzessin von Nassau-Weilburg.

The couple had six children: Three sons and three daughters.

Peerage.com says Agrippina died in 1927 at Kislovodsk.
