Biography
Thomas was the son of Dudley Digges and Mary Kempe.[1] He was baptised at Wye, Kent on 30 August 1609.[2][3]
Some time by 1632, based on the birth of their first son, Thomas married Mary Abbott, daughter of Sir Maurice Abbott, Lord Mayor of London 1636. They had a numerous family of six sons and six daughters. [4] Sons:
- Sir Maurice - b. 1633/4; m. (1) Dixwell 1654 (2) Rose 1661; d. 1666 svp
- Dudley - b. 1638?; d. sp
- John - b. 1642; d. sp
- Thomas - b. 1643; d. sp
- Col. Edward - b. 1649; m. 1679; d. sp
- Leonard - b. 1651; m. Osborne; d. 1717 - had issue
Daughters:
- Marie - b. 1635
- Elizabeth - b. 1641
- Ann - b. 1644
- Martha - b.1647
Of all the sons, only Leonard survived his father's death in 1687 to inherit the Chilham estate. [5]
Mary Digges survived her husband to die in 1692. [4]
