Biography

Giuseppe di Palermo, son of Francesco di Palermo and the late Antonina Governali, marries Apollonia Scalisi, daughter of the late Mariano Scalisi and Bernarda Crapisi, on 1 February 1889 in Corleone.[1]

Giuseppe Di Palermo, age 22 (b. 1867), borgese, native resident of Corleone, son of Francesco Di Palermo and the late Antonina Governali; and Apollonia Scalisi, age 15 (b. 1874), housewife, native resident of Corleone, daughter of the late Mariano Scalisi and the late Bernarda Crapisi; announce their marriage to the commune on 9 February 1889. Witnesses are Filippo Jovino, age 60 (b. 1829), borgese, and Giovanni Mannina, age 57 (b. 1832), contadino.[2]

Giuseppe and Apollonia have five known children: Francesco (c. 1891), Maria (c. 1893), Bernarda (c. 1897), Maria Carmela (1904), and Vincenzo (1909).

Francesco, Maria, and Bernarda are known from the family's 1897 migration, and were born in Italy.

On the manifest of the SS Scindia, sailing from Naples on 10 November 1897 and arriving in the port of New York on 29 November, these passengers from Corleone appear together:

Apollonia Scalise Di Palermo and Giuseppe Di Palermo have a daughter, Maria Carmela Di Palermo, on 21 February 1904 in Manhattan, NY.[4]

Vincenzo Di Palermo is born 21 February 1909 in Manhattan, the son of Giuseppe Di Palermo, age 42 (b. 1866), and Apilonia Scalie Di Palermo, age 35 (b. 1873), both born in Italy.[5]

In 1914, Francesco di Palermo emigrates with the mafioso Jack Dragna. Francesco meets his uncle Giuseppe di Palermo at 212 E. 97th St. in New York City. Despite his youth (Francesco is 22), he is married to the sister of Michaelangelo Gennaro, who will be the boss of the Mafia in Corleone in 1920.

Apolonic Dipalermo is the grantor, Joseph Dipalermo the grantee in a land assessment on 7 April 1927 in Yonkers, Westchester, New York.[6]

On the same date, 7 April 1927 in Westchester, Apolonia Dipalermo is the grantor and Maria Nicolosi is the grantee in a land assessment.[7]

Also on 7 April 1927 in Westchester, Apolonia Dipalermo is grantor, Antonio Nicolosi is grantee.[8]

Same date, 7 April 1927, Apolonia Di Palermo is both grantor and grantee in a land assessment in Yonkers, Westchester.[9]

Apolonia Di Palermo is the grantor, Pelion Realty Corp is the grantee, in a land assessment on 12 August 1927 in Yonkers, New York. There is another land assessment the same date grantor Joseph Di Palermo and grantee Pelion Realty Corp.[10]

Vincenzo Di Palermo, age 26 (b. 1909), born in NYC, son of Giuseppe Di Palermo and Apolonia Scalie, marries Maria Latorres, age 26 (b. 1909), born in Italy, daughter of Vincenzo Latorres and Celestina Trigilia, on 23 June 1935 in Manhattan.[11]
