Thomas Després was born on 28 Apr 1877 and baptized the next day in Cocagne, New Brunswick, the son of Athanase Després and Sylvie Pineau.^[1] His godparents were Thomas Després and Osithe Melanson.

In the 1891 census Thomas, age 14, was in Dundas, Kent, New Brunswick.^[3]
