Mary Denson's birth was registered in Tumut, NSW, Australia in 1860.[1] Tumut is located in Wiradjuri country in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains.[2]She was the daughter of William Denson and Margaret Enright. She had two sisters and one brother, and ten step siblings. Her mother passing away in 1879 when Mary was 19 years of age.[3]
She married Edward William Hartnett at Tumut in 1881. [4]Together they had eight children:

Mary passed away following complications after surgery. She was 62 years of age. Her husband Edward predeceased her.[5][6]
