NEW SOUTH WALES.
GUNNEDAH, Saturday.A empty store, the property of Mr Decaux, was entirely destroyed by fire to-day. The fire was evidently the work of an incendiary. But for the exertions of the inhabitants, a large block of buildings would have been destroyed. Dr Canney, Mr Heath, Mr R. W. Roberts, and Mr Walter Douglas deserve credit for the manner in which they went to work to prevent the further destruction of property.

There is a "V. E. Decaux" recorded as a petitioner in 1895 for Gunnedah as a Municipality - may be William, but would have to see original signed document (wherever that's held) to confirm / deny.
