Joseph Deaton, son of William Deaton and Mary "Polly" (Ayres) Deaton, was born about 1834 in Perry County, Kentucky.[1] He appeared on the census of 27 August 1850 in the home of his aunt, Delilah (Deaton) Spencer and uncle at Kentucky District, Owsley County, Kentucky. His grandmother, Isabella Sarah (Brantley) Deaton was living with them.[2]
He married Rebecca Moore on 17 December 1855 probably in Perry County, Kentucky their residence.[3][1]
He was a farmer when he and Rebecca appeared on the census of 6 July 1860 at District 1, Breathitt County, Kentucky. His mother was living with them.[4]
Joseph died in the U. S. Civil War in 1865 at Point Lookout, St. Mary's County, Maryland and was buried at Point Lookout Confederate Cemetery, Scotland, St. Mary's County, Maryland. His memorial has biographical material and links to those of family members.[1]
