Nervie, son of George W. Deardorff and Rebecca Catherine Stallsmith,^[1] was born 15 October 1884 in Huntington Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania.^[1][2][3]

In 1900, sixteen-year-old George Nevin "Nervie" labored beside his father George W. Deardorff (age 55, tenant farmer) on the land they rented in Tyrone Township, Adams County, to support his mother Rebecca C. (56, mother of seven, all living), siblings Dora Viola (21), Mary "Elsie" (18), Grace Alverta Deardorff (13), Ella Susan (Deardorff) Shultz (27, widowed) and nephew Nervin Oliver Shultz (7).^[2]

By 1910 his father George W. Deardorff (age 69, farmer) owned the land he and George N. (24, hand on home farm) cultivated on Bottom Road in Huntington Township, Adams County.^[4] Only his mother Rebecca C. (64) and nephew Oliver N Shultz (16, day laborer) remained with them in the household.^[4]

On 4 January 1912 in Adams County, he married 20-year-old Ethel M Pottorff.^[1] daughter of Luther Henry Pottorff and Bertha C. Yohe.^[1] They do not appear to have had any children prior to Nervie's untimely death at age 31 on 25 June 1916.^[3] He was buried at New Oxford Cemetery in New Oxford, Adams County.^[3]

Research Notes

• Name: His early records show his name as George N.; however, he is married as Nervin G. while signing that document as Nevin George.^[1] His grave stone has Nervin George.^[3]
