Daughter of William De La Montaigne, b. Jun. 27, 1750 in Bermuda and d. Mar. 2, 1807 in Philadelphia, PA. & Hannah Calwalader Brown, b. Mar. 6, 1768 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA. and d. Jan. 20, 1817 in Philadelphia, PA.
In 1819, James Woodward and Mary Ellen de la Montaigne were married in PA.
Ritually adopted by Young as his daughter (along with her husband), before being sealed to him two days later as his 36th wife, February 3, 1846. She later divorced Young on 13 December 1846 in Nauvoo and remarried James Boyd Woodward.
