Urania was born in 1827. She is the daughter of David Davis and Chary Bayles.
She provided much of the genealogical information on the David Davis family.
She married Roswell F Polley sometime between the 1850 Census (single, with her parents) and the 1860 Census (married, living with her brother Ira in Ohio). Roswell died in 1859, so the marriage did not last more than 9 years.
Urania appears in the 1880 Census at Sandusky with her mother Charity:
She appears "Urania D. Polley" in the 1900 Census at Sandusky, "widow", born 1827, indicating one child, but also indicating that the child is no longer living. If there is a record, or burial of this child, it must therefor be prior to 1900.
There is a death record of Urania R. Davis, 21 Apr 1895, at Oneonta, Otsego, New York. (Source provided below). The DAVIS family is present in that area for several generations. While the name Urania is uncommon, the death record must be for a different individual; Urania Polley is still living, per the 1900 Census.
The unnamed child recorded in the 1900 Census must have been born between 1850 and 1859. Assuming the child was born in Ohio, a search of records produces a number of possibilities, but none of them have the name "Urania" or "Roswell" attached to them.
May 13, 1905 issue of the Sandusky Register.
"Mrs. Urania D. Polley died Friday morning at the home of her sister-in-law Mrs. John R. Davis, with whom she had lived for the past three years. Mrs. Polley was well known to our older citizens, having been for many years one of the leading dressmakers here. She was born on Long Island, June 28, 1827, moved with her parents to Oswego County, N.Y., and in 1851 married Roswell F. Polley and came to to this city, her husband dying eight years later. She was a faithful member of the Congregational church during the more than 50 years that she resided here. A sister and two brothers survive her: Mrs. Maria D. Brown of Seneca County, and Ira T. and Josh B. Davis of this city. The funeral services will be held at Mrs. John R. Davis, 208 Washington Street, Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Mrs. Urania Polley was laid to rest in Oakland Cemetery, beside her dear husband, who passed away on 1859."
