Prof. Peter Vroom Davis was mayor of the town of Gilman, Washington, later known as Issaquah, from 1893 to 1895. He had a long career as an attorney in the Seattle area. He served as city attorney of Ballard, as well as a municipal judge. He was also a delegate to the Republican state convention, principal of the school board of the Issaquah district, chancellor commander of Triangle Lodge, No. 46, Knights of Pythias, receiver of the Marine Savings bank in Ballard, and president of the Republic Club of Ballard
He divorced his first wife, Wilhelmina B. Stevens, in 1894. The judge granted the divorce, and by stipulation he allowed their child to remain with the mother. He later remarried twice.
In 1927, he was appointed assistant United States district attorney in Los Angeles, California, where he was involved in several high-profile cases, including that of Albert Marco, a notable Italian-born bootlegger who was active during the Prohibition Era.
