James Darcy is Notable.
James was born before 1570. He was the son of Nicholas D'Arcy. He passed away in 1603.
Wives and Children
Different sources give conflicting information about James's wife and children.
Burke's Irish Family Records 1976 (p. 324) mentions only one wife, Elizabeth Martin, to whom seven sons but no daughter are attributed: Nicholas, Martin, James, Anthony, Mark, Andrew and Patrick.
Wikipedia, citing numerous offline sources, lists two wives:
- Miss Bodkin, with whom he fathered Nicholas, Martin, James, Anthony and Anastace; and
- Elizabeth Martyn, with whom he fathered Andrew and Patrick.
It does not mention Mark.
The Dictionary of Irish Biography states that Patrick Darcy was "seventh son of Sir James Darcy, mayor of Galway at the time of his death (1603), and his second wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Martin, also of Galway", possibly following Burke in suggesting that all seven sons were from the second marriage.
