Niels Peter Nielsen Dahl was born on October 3, 1865 in Danmark, son of Niels Christian Dahl (1840–1900) and Ellen Maria Nielsen (1844–1924).^{[1] [2] [3]}

Niels (21) married Lillian Tealby (17) (born on February 18, 1870 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England; daughter of George Henry Tealby and Emily (Syson) Tealby) on March 24, 1887 in Bundaberg, Queensland.^[4] Their children were:
