WikiTree is among the primary sites I use for genealogy because I understand that it’s better for everyone to collaborate on a global shared tree than to work on isolated individual trees on sites like Ancestry and MyHeritage. To some people this may seem obvious, it certainly seems obvious to me; but it seems that a surprisingly large number of people do not understand this, including many people who have visited WikiTree.

I’m always happy to try to help others with their research, feel free to contact me if you have any questions you think I can answer.

Dear Matthew,

On behalf of the England Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve English profiles!

The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members periodically to make sure everything is going well. This is our formal annual check-in with you.

Are you happy to with your current project team choices? Would you like to join any other teams?

Also, we would really like to hear which team is currently your highest priority. If you are a member of more than one team, could you please rank them from highest priority to lowest? Thank you! If you don’t see yourself as being part of a team, please let us know.

We also welcome any feedback on things you would like to see the project do more of in the future.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message.

On behalf of all the Leaders, thank you again for all you do and we look forward to you continuing to be a part of our collaborative and fun Project!

Kind regards,

Susie, England Project Leader

Hi Susie,

I am happy with my current team choices and would not like to join any other teams at the moment.

I am finding it impossible to give a ranking of highest to lowest priority. The two teams I’m in are basically just the two main places my family come from, I cannot reasonably rank one above the other.

Thank you, Matthew, for adding me to the Trusted List. I added Notables as well so those profiles can be connected to their son.

Hi Matthew,

I would to thank you for all your contributions towards the goals of the England Project during the past six months. We have achieved a huge amount during this period and we couldn't have done it without you and our other project members.

As the England Project Leaders, we are completing our six monthly check-in with all project members. Are you happy to stay in your current project teams? Which teams are you most active in? Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?

Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future? Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks!

Hi Mike,

I am happy to stay in my current teams, I don’t think there are any other teams I would like to join.

Feedback… one thing that comes to mind is that I keep hearing mentions of the England Project Discord server, and it is possible that I would be more active on WikiTree if I were regularly interacting with other members in the Discord server, but have never seen an invite for it or any other instructions on how one is supposed to go about obtaining an invite link to it, so that seems like something the England Project could be doing better.

Hi Mark,

The United Kingdom Project has not been active since 2018 and we are now completely closing it down. We are removing all UK project badges. If you still have an interest in the UK and have not already joined another project, then you will need to join the England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales Project by answering one or more of their G2G posts. If your interest is in the British Isles and British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories, then please contact me directly.

Regards Joan

So looking thro my ancestry tree and old photo, it would seem Florence may price 1898 would be my great grand aunt

Hi Tracy, presumably you mean Price-9786. A copy of her birth certificate came to be in my family’s possession after she was misidentified with a different Florence Price; I created profiles for the 1898 Florence May Price and her parents and uploaded a scan of the certificate anyway just in case it was helpful to someone.

Hi Matthew,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around.

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Joan, Amy & Lizzie.

Hi Joan (and Amy, and Lizzie),

Still mainly working on my own family when I find the time to do so, happy with the teams I’m currently in.

I would be interested in using the Discord server, but I have been unable to find an invite link and haven’t gotten around to asking for one. I read a lot of the messages in the Google Group and will continue to participate when I have something to contribute; admittedly that hasn’t been often, but in general I read a lot more than I write in online communities, and I’m not sure what would be necessary to change that.

Hello Matthew, the England Project has changed the way that "Category:England Project" is used. Previously it identified England Project Members, now it is a category for the England Project Free Space Pages and admin pages.

I would therefore be very grateful if you would remove "Category:England Project" from your personal profile. Please contact me if you have any questions about this.

Many thanks, Jo, England Project Leader

Hi Matthew,

Your England Leaders are completing the six monthly check in with all team members. I wanted to thank you for your work on English Profiles. These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. What we are all able to/ wish to contribute on Wikitree has changed. Please let me know if you are happy with your current role and team choice or if you wish to do something additional or different. Thank you again on behalf of all the project leaders for everything you do!

Hello Matthew,

Just a quick note to introduce myself as your new Team leader for Greater London and Middlesex. I have been a Wikitree member for over two years but have been tracing my tree for over 30 years and many lines are from Middlesex and go back pre-1500. I look forward to working with you all to try and reduce the unsourced and unconnected and find more resources. Please don't hesitate to ask for assistance, I'll always try and help. Thank you for your help so far. Valerie Crowley. Team Leader

Hi Matthew,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi Matthew,

I’m Susie the new leader of the England Project. We are contacting all existing members of the project to find out how you are currently involved, and how you would like to be involved moving forward. Please have a look at the England Project page for more information, and then contact either myself or Gillian to let us know what you’d like to do, or if you have any questions. We can then list your interests, help you join the team in the Google group forum for England, and give you any help you might need to get going. If we don’t hear back from you we’ll assume you no longer want to be a part of the England Project at this time.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,

Susie :-)
