Thomas Cuthbertson was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was the son of James Cuthbertson and Euphemia Turner. He came to Canada with his parents in the early 1820s. He married Margaret Russell in 1839. After her death he married Martha Warren nee McLellan in 1862.
