Claudia founded the West Indian Gazette to give voice for the Caribbean community in the United Kingdom, and was instrumental in the founding of the Notting Hill Carnival. Her family had moved to the United States when she was young but Claudia was deported to the United Kingdom owing to her political activism with the Communist Party, fighting for equal rights for African-Americans.
Claudia was born in 1915. She passed away in 1964.
