Bill Cullen was a U.S. television personality who hosted primarily game shows including Blockbusters and the original The Price Is Right.
He was born in 1920 to William C. Cullen, the owner of an auto mechanic service, and Lillian Stuckert. Struck with polio at an early age, he walked with a pronounced limp which was usually hidden from the home viewer.
After a career in local radio which included broadcasting the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cullen decided to move to New York City to further his career. He quickly found work as an announcer and commercial reader, and was soon hosting his first game show on the radio.
His major breakthrough was being named the host of the first version of The Price Is Right, which aired from 1956 to 1965. He also went on to long stints hosting Eye Guess, Three on a Match, and the nighttime version of the $25,000 Pyramid. Viewers may also know him as a longtime panelist on both To Tell the Truth and I've Got a Secret.
One of the last hosts to work out of New York, he eventually moved to Los Angeles in 1978 to further his career. His last job was as the host of Joker's Wild upon the death of original host Jack Barry.

Also my mother Ruth Ellen Harrington (1922-2019) was Bill's first wife, they met at South High School in Pittsburgh, PA and were married 16 Sep 1943 in Pittsburgh. Bill's career took off shortly thereafter and his celebrity took precedence over his marriage and they separated soon thereafter and divorced in 1947. Mom remained very close to Bill's mother Lillian Stuckert Cullen and took a job in the garage Bill's Dad owned in Pittsburgh. Bill's Dad passed in 1944 and when my Dad returned from service in WWII in early 1946 he helped Lillian run the garage and that's where he met Mom. They married in 1949, had three children, Dad passed in 1995 and Mom just over a year ago at 97! She was a great lady!
We plan on featuring Bill alongside Alex Trebek, the Example Profile of the Week, in the Connection finder on December 30th. Between now and then is a good time to take a look at the sources and biography to see if there are updates and improvements that need made, especially those that will bring it up to WikiTree Style Guide standards. We know it's short notice, so don't fret too much. Just do what you can. A Team member will check on the profile Tuesday and make changes as necessary.
Thanks! Abby
