The Registrar reported that while the country had been celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the Rising there, five Licentiates had been celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of iheir registration as pharmaceutical chemists, which had taken place on the morning after the insurrection had begun. He had sent congratulations to each of them on having attained their golden jubilee in the profession. One of them — Mr. Robert Henry Kerr. London — had replied, donating £5 5s. towards the Benevolent Fund, " in thanksgiving for having been spared to see my fiftieth anniversary as a pharmacist." The other members were: — Mr. J. J. B. Breakey, Belfast; Mr. M. J. Cullen, Tubbercurry; Mr. J. Duggan. Clontarf and Mr. J. H. Moffatt, Belfast.
ANOTHER native of Tubbercurry passed away during the Christmas period. He was Bernard (Bertie) Cullen M.P.S.I. A.O.I. of Navan Road, Dublin and formerly of Humbert Street, Tubbercurry. He was the son of chemist M.J. Cullen, M.P.S.I., Tubbercurry which was Noonan's chemists in later years. The late Bertie Cullen in his early years played with Tubber GAA club, and was a member of the Phoenix Players in the early 1950's. He died on December 30th in the loving care of the staff of St. Francis Hospice, Raheny, Dublin. Funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Navan Road, Dublin on New Year's Day, followed by burial in Rathoath Cemetery. Deepest sympathy is extended to his sorrowing wife Gretta; daughters Therese, Raphaelle, Mary and Eileen; grandchildren; to his sisters Maura Noonan (retired), Humbert Street, Tubbercurry and Betty Burke, now of Enniscrone; to his relatives and a wide circle of friends.
