John was born in Hungary in 1894 as "Johan Csincsak."[1] In 1915, John immigrated to the United States.
Soon after he immigrated, he began going by the name John Chenchak and living with fellow immigrant and long time partner Fred Stovring. In 1920, he lived with Fred in Los Angeles, California and worked alongside Fred as a tailor.[2] They continued to live and work together in 1930[3] and 1940.[4] After their 30 years together, Fred passed away in 1950.
John continued to live in Los Angeles. He passed away in 1968.[5]
