Early Life

In 1900, she lives on Clubs Street in Pensacola, Florida with her parents. Her dad, Charlie, works as a Bayman on the docks presumably with his brothers, William Adam and John Thomas, who also work on the docks. Her mom, Matilda, has her teenage brother, Samuel living with the family and works as a day laborer. Since the docks employed day labor at the time, it's entirely possible, he also worked with Charlie. Matilda and Charlie have five children: Arthur, Charles, James, Ruth, and Beulah. [1]
In 1910, the family owns a house on Romana Street in Pensacola. Charlie still works as a stevedore on the docks. Arthur, Charles, James, Ruth, and Odessa still live at home. Arthur is working as a salseman. Young Charles works in a real estate office as an office boy. In addition, more children join the Crooke family including Calvin, Herman, Bernard, Hazel, and Mildred.[2]

In 1920, she, her husband, William Stowe, and their two daughters (Patricia and Jane live in Pensacola with her parents and 10 siblings. Her husband works as a tailor. [3]

By 1930, Charles and Matilda have moved to East Lakeview Avenue, but still live in Pensacola, only Mildred, William, and Ruth still live at home.
