As a person, i have reached a stage in life where I know who I am, and what I like, my strengths and my weaknesses. I've cut off forever those who have hurt me and am now in a state of relief that the stress of being close to them has gone forever - certain relationships that i never want to rekindle and people I will never think about again because any good memories have been replaced by the hurt and betrayal that thinking of them would re-ignite and that just isn't healthy. The fresh start several years ago was the best thing that could have happened and happened for a reason and I never looked back. Setting up this family history online meant sorting through all the family documents and rehousing or disposing and has been like a closure to never revisit some relationships.

As I write this I can even summarise my favourite things in life pretty clearly - a picture of who i was for after i'm gone ...

Favourite colour - lavender blue ; favourite bird - pelican ; favourite animal - wombats ... particularly bald baby ones!! favourite insect - dragonfly ; favourite composer to listen to - Mozart ; favourite composer to play - Albert Reed ; favourite piece to play - Puszta Four Gypsy Dances ; favourite Australian singer - Anthony Warlow ; favourite American singer - Micky Dolenz ; favourite English singer - George Michael ; favourite concerts - I was at the last concert of the George Michael world tour in Melbourne ; and I saw Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith perform in Brisbane ; favourite artist - Monet ; favourite book / movie - Picnic at Hanging Rock - visited the rock in 2018 and in 2009 went to the house in the Barossa Valley which was used for Appleyard College in the movie ; singer/songwriter i admire the most is Billy Joel - i may not like all his work but I think he has perfected his art ; favourite tv show - Hill Street Blues ; role model growing up - Veronica Hamel in the role of Joyce Davenport in Hill Street Blues ; favourite books - People & Pearls ; and Ocean Planet ... both books are collections of short writings on topic and inform and transport the reader ; favourite jewerly - pearls ; and favourite fabric - silk.

The decision to use this platform to document the lives of family members comes from having to make the difficult decision to donate all the certificates and memorabilia of parents, aunts/uncles, and paternal grandfather to relevant museums/libraries so they will endure.

Unfortunately both sides of the family were disfunctional so I grew up without bonding with relatives from either side, this affected me emotionally and I'm heartbroken that this has continued to the next generation who will probably have the same bitterness towards parents when they grow, unanswered questions as to why they were denied the possibility of love from the largest number of relatives possible. I've still got the email from when my brother got engaged, for example, I emailed the bank to find out how much was the ideal amount to start trust funds for babies - something I never got the chance to use. It is important to record history to answer the questions of such future generations so they know the love was there for them to be spoilt - they were just denied it by their parents. So common in this busy, weird world we live in.

Our parents, although being modest in resources, gave us every opportunity, not wanting us to take part time work etc. while we were still at university, and providing us with sport and musical education as well as spiritual growth through Sunday Schools. I have spent my life trying to honour this sacrifice and give back. Dad had retired by the time I started work so I paid things like my brother's tertiary tax and even bought an expensive sop. sax for his 21st for his parents to give him. All dad wanted me to do was take mum on holidays because he didn't want to travel so Mum and I saw a lot of the world and that was my primary contribution through my early adult years - paying for all mum's holidays :) This continued throughout life and I still think that providing this for mum each year is what dad would have wanted.

The last time I went out with Dad he told me how disappointed he was in a relative he'd lent money to to buy something - they didn't repay it - Dad said he hadn't told mum about the loan he made - after I too ended up in a similar situation with that relative, buying concert tickets and a weekend away, I confided in mum about what dad had said - only to be told he'd also decided to tell her about the un-repaid loan just before he died - did he know his end was near and was it some sort of insight and warning that we didn't grasp at the time - who will know? But that was the sort of person dad was, generous and giving. Unfortunately it also showed the sort of person our close relative was becoming.

After dad died, I paid all the family bills, which I continue to do to this day. I invested as I went along, even investing in properties with a close relative who was a silent partner ... while this back-fired and we suspect, from things his wife said to mum, untruths have been used as a form of control, a way of keeping them away from family - I wanted to establish this family history online so, while not receiving any of these memory items in physical life, they will at least have them as online memories so any children will one day learn a little about the family they never got to know. It is also important as this family member has had, it seems, their best friend try to research me online, linkedin etc., this puts family history all together so that they can look at it themselves without mates sneaking around online - upfront and honest and freely available for future generations.

Please email me directly if you have any questions where your family tree overlaps with this one. I still have some photographs from the family that I've been unable to put names to. I can let you know which museums or libraries have the memorabilia if you're interested.

You have several profiles with Find a Grave links that do not match the profile that they are added to, probably related to the profile. Find a Grave citation should be added to the profiles, including the FindAGrave template with sameas=no, if you don't have the Find a Grave page that matches the profile.

Hi Deborah,

I see you have been working on creating some pre-1700, Thank you for doing this. Just a reminder that Family Search trees, by them selves, are not a good source. Many of the trees from Family Search has sources that may help and could be added as sources in Wikitree profiles. If you could go back over the pre-1700 profiles and add some good sources that would be great.

Many projects have created list of reliable sources and you can find them at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Reliable_Sources_for_Pre-1700_Profiles

If you need help with this, our G2G Forum is a great place to start.

Thank you for all the contributions that you have done for Wikitree. Rich D.

Hi There, Thanks a million for posting a wonderful photo of my grandmother Gladys Thelma Disckfos. The photo made her look so photogenic, thanks a million. One of her daughters (Glenda) had adopted me in the early 70's. I do not have anything to do with my parents, but remain incredibly proud of this wonderfully strong woman who raised ssuch wonderful children in harsh conditions. Thanks a million.Kate Ross

Hi Deborah,

Thanks self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the Scotland and Germany Projects would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

i can't find what to do to document alternate spellings that appear on some documents - eg. my great grandfather - johann jost cronau 1839-1902 - he is listed in some records a johannes, some as johann, and some as john .... how/where do i document that people looking for him can find him easier? also, old queensland records regularly mis-spell the surnames. his wife was a banff, but some records have it as banf ... is it important to document this somewhere? my surname is even worse - cronau mis-spelt so many ways on official documents so is it important to note this somewhere as 'alternate' spellings or is it all clear via the bibliography that will list government records?

Hi Deborah

This is the sort of information you can add to biographies. You can also add the alternatives to Other Last Name(s): field

My own maiden name has in past generations been spelt Langrish, Longridge, Longbridge - same family group changes with core family I added in the info to biographies and in the a name study.

Thanks for all the work you are doing

Janet

forgot to say a big thanks for looking at it all and taking the time ... hope it is ok the way i've planned to get all the records up before doing links to graves and things like you added - just concentrating on getting names and dates up to help others first. will add photos down the track too.

re the edits that were made to what i've listed thus far - was going to get around to that but, given i've got hundreds of entries to list i'm was hoping to just do an unedited post of all my notes and, once all the records and connections are safely on the site, start tidying them up and being more specific and formal with details. my main concern was getting all the records on the site so they are safe should something happen to me.

Sorry to be late in replying to this, I don't get alerts to secondary replies.

In regards to adding notes I think the best way forward is to create what we call a space page on this you add all notes regarding names or anything else you wish to then you simply place a link on all the profiles concerned.

To create a space page go to the Add button top right of your profile chick then selected new thing fill in the Page name. this is what it looks like https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?action=newspace take a look at the examples on the page. I have a few of these for various teams a organise and for family

Hope this helps you. Typing it all once is easier than doing it for all profiles. The page then shows up on your watch list so you can find it again :)

All the best Janet
