Thornton "John" Crawford was born about 1805 to William and Mary Crawford.
He was United in marriage on 26 September 1826

at Nicholas, Kentucky, United States to Elizabeth Snapp daughter of George Snapp and Sarah "Sally" (McIntire) Snap. They had two children (John Jr. and Sarah Ann).
John Sr. entered service for the Black Hawk War soon thereafter. He is found serving as a Sergeant in the Company of Philip W. Martin (later David Crow's Company) on several muster rolls, with his brother James Crawford serving in the same company.
He passed away 17 August 1833[7]. No other details are known regarding his death or burial.

John Crawford was married to Rebecca Morris, and died near Walnut Grove, in McDonough County; Sara Crawford is the wife of Henry T. Park and lives near Bushnell."
