Vin Crane was born on 27 April 1923 at Westlock, Alberta, Canada.
According to her oral history, which is available through the University of Victoria, she joined the WRCNS at Vancouver in September 1942. [1] She was draftered to HMCS Conestoga at Galt. She undertook Wireless training at Scarborough, Ontaria after which she was transferred to Gloucester, near Ottawa where she was required to intercept and obtain bearings on Uboats. She was skilled at recognizing the enemy hand on the key and while at Gloucester the work meant she was involved in listening to enemy shore stations while transmitted on a fixed frequency for a time before the frequency changed. It was her responsibility to locate the new frequencies as quickly as possible. She was then drafted to HMCS St Hyacinthe for further instruction then on to somewhere near Moncton to open a new station. She later returned to St Hyacinthe to take the Leading Wren course. She was demobilized in November 1945.
She died on 12 April 2017 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
