Biography

Birth

William Michael was born on 20 Jan 1802 in East Florida, New Spain to Col. William Craig and Rebecca McCay Craig, and was baptized there at the parish church in St. Augustine on 1 Jun 1802 by Don Miguel O'Reilly.[1]

Naturalization

William, as an alien and subject of the King of Spain, petitioned to be admitted as a citizen of the United States, and was admitted accordingly, having taken and subscribed the oath of naturalization in open court on 23 Nov 1826 in Savannah, GA.[2]

  • 5 Apr 1826 – Savannah, Chatham County, GA – William M. Craig to George Robertson, both of Savannah, for $400, an enslaved man named Cato about 19 years old. Wit: Jas. Eppinger, J.P.[3]
  • 20 Apr 1826 – Chatham County, GA – William M. Craig of Savannah to Edmund Warren of Bulloch County, for $250, an enslaved girl about 11 years old named Hannah. Wit: John C. Gromet, Joseph G. Blance, Wm. C. Barton, J.P.[4]

Marriage

He and Lucina "Lucy" Ann Warren Craig Griffin Randall were married obtained their marriage license on 10 Dec 1821 in Chatham County, GA,[5] and were married there the next day by the Rev. Mr. Carpenter.[6]
