Biography

There are many famiy trees on WorldConnect.com for Toliver, but none with documentation except for referrals to other family trees. Need original sources. Most trees examined say he was born 1735/38.

He is listed as Toliver in some family trees or in some cases, Taliferro Toliver Cox.

Toliver Cox was a witness for the will of James Wilson, Sr. of Henry County and Parish of Camden in Virginia, July 21, 1777.

Wit: Toliver Cox, Russell Cos, Joseph Goodwin.
"exhibited by Martha Wilson and Thomas and Moses Wilson who gave bond with John Blagg and Taliafero Cox, their securities." [HENRY COUNTY, VIRGINIA - WILL BOOK 1, ABSTRACTS; 1779-1799] [1]

Some of these family trees say Toliver was the son of William Cox (b. 1700, St. Thomas Parish, Orange Co., VA) and Martha Cary (b. ca 1704), also called Lady Martha Cary/Carey.

Some say Toliver Cox married Frances Davis or Davidson.

Many of the family trees list a son, John Toliver Cox (b. 1800; SC)[2]

Other references include a son, Jerome, and a daughter, Sarah (Cox) Cook.

Toliver is listed in the 1790 census of Edgefield County, South Carolina with a number of other Cox heads-of-house.
